Briefly explaining forms
Southern Fist, named so because it was developed in Southern China. It is strong and powerfull; its moves are aggressive and fierce and often executed with a shout.
Long Fist. It is identified by its quick and agile movements, its well-defined postures and acrobatic techniques.
Straight Sword. Known as the "gentleman of all Chinese weapons" it was considered to be the weapon of the more refined warrior. It is characterised by its brisk but graceful movements.
Spear. It is considered to be the "king of all Chinese weapons" as it was the major military weapon and said to be able to beat all other weapons. Its moves are flexible, light and invasive.
Long Staff. It is considered to be the "father of all Chinese weapons" as it was the earliest weapon recorded and all other weapons were developed from it. It is characterised by its long sweeping movements and dynamic spinning.
Chinese Broadsword. It is considered to be the "Marshall of all Chinese weapons" and is one of the most used weapons in Wushu. Its moves are vigorous and quick and the unlike the straight sword the emphasis is more on chopping and hacking.
Long Tassel Straight Sword, which is actually two weapons in one. The sword is used for the usual offensive and defensive techniques while the tassel provides double the attack power with its fast whirling and whipping movements.
Chen Style Tai Chi. Tai Chi is well known for its soft, gentle and flowing movements. It is based on the principles of internal energy or Qi rather then brute force. The Chen Style is characterised by slightly faster movements and lower stances then the other forms of Tai Chi.
Xing-Yi. Although considered an internal style like Tai Chi, the Xing-Yi movements are quite fast and powerful. Referred to as a "straight line style" the movements of Xing-Yi are performed in a straight line, with the logic "the quickest way to any point is straight ahead".
